It all started with a statement made during the incident. A few days ago, director Vetrimaran participated in an event. At that time, his statement made everyone angry. Raja Chola is not a Hindu but he (BJP) is trying to steal our identity, he said. Tried to paint Tiruvelluvar with saffron earlier too.

After that, actor Kamal Haasan expressed his opinion in favor of director Vetrimaran. Then people were called Vainavam, Shivam and Samanam. But the British brought the term ‘Hindu’ to refer to all of them collectively. It is like turning Tuthukudi into Tuticorin.

Although director Vetrimaran has Kamal Haasan’s support, BJP has targeted Vetrimaran. BJP leader H. Raja said that ‘Raja Chola was a Hindu king’. Besides, “I don’t know the history of Vetrimaran. But the Chola king was not a Hindu, so let Vetrimaran name the two churches and mosques built by him. In fact King Chola called himself Shivpada Shekaran. So they are not Hindus? Such a question H. Raja participated.

This is not the first time that a controversial statement has been made in Tamil Nadu about King Chola. In 2019, film director P. A. Controversy arose after Ranjith’s statement about King Chola. “The era of Dore Chola was a dark time for Dalits. Dalits were forcibly dispossessed of land and many forms of communal atrocities started during the rule of King Chola,” Ranjith had stated.
